I played a MUD called Darkening Sun for a bit more than six years, and once the RP went downhil and all the Imms got into political power trips I left, and nearly four years later, I still haven't gotten into a new one. Mainly because I know how much I'll love and become addicted to WoW, and so I figure it's safer not to play.
