Watch The Guild

The Guild comic #3 is out... and I can't believe I scooped Dani on starting a thread about it :)

I actually haven't picked it up yet to read it - just wrapped S4 yesterday (well all but one day that we're shooting later).  Writing the news/blog post for watchtheguild.com right now.

So, who has it?  What do you think? Did your comic shop have lots of copies?  Did they sell out?  Discuss...  I'll come back later this evening to rejoin the discussion...

A couple things kinda bugged me, Cyd has to pay $100k for torching the cello, she's unemployed as far as we know, so how is she going to pay that with no income. And the Megan Fox statement, the series started around 2006ish... or so, was she even relevant back then? And for the most part 1 and 2 were just a week difference, as stated on the DVD commentary. I don't think anyone even knew who she was prior to Transformers, except for the fact she was stroking Brian's member when they had lunch.

The overall story was interesting, why Cyd became the basket case she is, how the members met each other, though did Tink ever get that 500 gold? I could hear the characters voices reading the comic, I kept thinking of Kim during those therapy sessions, but it's too hard to forget her cameo and her line, "Meth addict, crack is for losers". That voice chimed in once in a while. It had a lot of moments, but the series is just so much better.

I did like the ending segway line, it gave me a chuckle.
I really enjoyed the comics.

Your Megan Fox observation is interesting. When The Guild started, it could potentially have been set in the near future, which is our present, making the Megan Fox remark unremarkable. I'm trying to think if there are any other references in The Guild which could be used to fix it to a particular period of time. The retail price of Kraft Deli Deluxe Cheese Slices perhaps?
Only three issues??? Damn! I was hoping for an unlimited run. ALL kindsa fun to be had here. C'mon, don't cut me off now you got me jonesing for guild comic book aciton.
There's not much else they can do with the story arc on the comic line. It was basically a prequel to the first episode, so now we learn about what lead up to the moment that Cyd got hooked onto the game, and why. It pretty much summed everything up. Unless there's some kind of invisible time line that can be imposed some how, but you can't really stretch it too long. Look at Smallville, it's not part of the canon Superman lore after High School ended, and it's on it's own separate tangent now. That's the only viable way I could see the comics life extending, if it deviates from the web series and becomes its own entity. Which I would have mixed feelings about.
Well since the TV series focusses on the characters in the real world why not have a comic entirely focussed on how the character interreact in-game, in counterpoint to what is going on in the TV series? I see all sort of opportunity for commentary on how the in-game characters vary from and reflect the real people creating them, and on how the ingame characters affect the players? I mean, Vork may have a dark side! And surely Codex is more than just the idealization of Cyd. And Tinkerbella ... a whole lot of undiscovered country there, much of it complex and interesting, to be explored.

So give me more comics, dammit! Don't make me fanwank again! I'll do it!
Ha! Only saw this thread today... I don't know why I forgot to post it, haha. Weird.
Points for you, Mr. Kameoka. =P

I haven't read it yet... just received #2 last week... so I'm like 1 month behind.
I wasn't expecting it at all, but my issue #3 arrived today!!!

Just read it and it's AWESOME, just like #1 and #2.
I actually laughed at the Megan Fox line, didn't worry about the time thing.
Also loved that Trevor tells Cyd she's "perfectly adequate" and then she's gonna use that talking to Fawkes.
Also loved the Axis of Anarchy cameo. And that was also Bruiser at Codex's door, right?
Last panel was perfect too. So so so good!

It was just an amazing comic book series. Felicia nailed it. It's all there... the feeling of the show... the humor... the character's voices.
And great work from the artists: Jim Rugg and Dan Jackson.
*claps*

Hope there's more in the future, as Scott said in the letters to the editor section.
And damn, I totally should have sent a letter to this one and try to be on all three, hahahaha. jk.
