I think there was an implication that he is gay, yeah, but I wouldn't say this is how guys who play girls are viewed, or that it isn't "normal", just kinda making fun of it, but not making it a big deal.

I always play girls even though I am.. well.. "ovarianly challenged" .. but I didn't know if this was something weird or something that peole mocked..

Oddly enough in most MMOs about 80% or more of the female toons are men.  I thought Codex's reaction was very unusual.  Unless for some reason she actually never met any male players playing females or is so naive to think men wouldn't.  From my many years of MMOs, it boils down to the same thing, men play female toons to either get more attention, or to get stuff from other people while pretending to be a real female.

I didn't think too much about it but I totally can now that you asked, haha... Here's a thought: Codex seems to see her avatar as a ideal version of herself, right? Someone she wants to be but it's not... Going from this, maybe that's what she thinks everyone kinda does, so in her mind it might be funny that all Valkyrie's ideal selfs are girls. I don't know, just a thought.

And I actually usually like to play with male characters!

My main on WoW is female, but my 2nd is male - cause I just wanted a male red hair worgen with a name somewhat related to Buffy's Oz! But in other games, I usually pick the male character, not really sure why, I guess I just rather stare at a male's back then a female, LOL.

She sort of reflects on it in a web cam right after she makes fun of him for playing a female avatar, though. I mean, in his case he is obviously closet gay, but in reality most guys I know playing WoW have at least some female alts. It's just a question of aesthetics really. There are some races in WoW where I would never roll a male character.

I think maybe for people that don't play MMO's or are new to them, it may seem noteworthy.

Personally I feel why go to all the trouble of creating a character only to have them be exactly like yourself anyway?

 

Surely the point of a role-playing game is you know - playing a role - and I love the creation of a new persona. I feel that people are more personal, and a bit gentler to female characters. Which is nice.

 

Oh.. and a great new look and wardrobe don't hurt, either!

I agree Tuesday, most people want to fantasize being something, else, something greater, to escape reality.  Now Codex is awkward and socially inept, which is why she had that vision of her Avatar talking the her, telling her to be more confident etc.  So on Dani's point I can understand where she's coming from, but she met the other gamers and they're nothing like their game toons for the most part.  Maybe with the exception of Bladezz and Tink.

Well, it's a show, and not reality.  Just a very weird perception though.
