Watch The Guild

We know how Vork affords to devote his life to the game. But how do the others afford to play the game. Where does their money come from? Do they have jobs?

Bladezz: His Mom.
Clara: Her Husband.
Tink: I assume her parents, and maybe her (ex)boyfriend.
Zaboo: Before her Mom, now I guess Codex. =P
Codex: Well, she plays violin and for the talk about her cello player boyfriend cheating on her with the Oboist, I'd assume she plays in an orchestra. If she gets money from that, I don't know.

Mostly sounds right. A few points, though:

The issue of paying for the game may not have come up since the beginning of the show, since probably less than two weeks have passed, so Codex may not have had to pay for Zaboo yet.

At the beginning of the first episode, Codex says that she's "still jobless." We don't know how long she's been unemployed. Perhaps since the incident with her boyfriend's cello? Most orchestras in the U.S. pay little or nothing to most of their musicians, who must support themselves with other jobs. Of course, Codex may have been a full-time violinist with a professional orchestra (that pays real money.)

We also know that Codex would have had to pay rent and a deposit for her new apartment, Zaboo has to pay college tuition, though probably not in the time since Season 1 ended, and Tink probably has to pay rent on her place. These probably cost a lot more than the game.

I bet Vork could use his farming monies to support the whole Guild in real life.

I don't know. He seemed to have trouble fulfilling his gold farming obligations, which was why he agreed to rent a room to Zaboo for game gold.

Perhaps we'll find out in season 3? But Dani sounds pretty spot on with Clara and Bladezz

Oh, you guys didn't know? The show actually takes place in an alternate time line where the US lost the Cold War, and Communism swept the globe.

MMOs are supported by the government as part of the propaganda to keep people happy and subdued. That's why it's only ever referred to as "The Game," because there's only one out there.

Well Bladezz does modeling work (remembering the blackmail of 1st season), but that all prob goes to pay his mom back when he makes stupid purchaes. I'm sure he'll be doing a lot more embarassing shoots to repay.

Codex, I presumed, was a musician of some kind since how she explained she caught her boyfriend cheating on her in season 1.

Zaboo could probably get a job as a IT guy I'm sure. I imagine "The Game" developers have a restraining order on him because of his numerous (and disturbing) job applications he's submitted over the years.

WELL NOT TINK BECAUSE SHE GIVES THE PLOT TO UGLY BETTY

This bothered me for a bit, but I have a theory about Codex.

My theory is that, as a child prodigy violinist, she performed when she was younger. It's conceivable that she's still drawing residuals. It wouldn't be much, but it might be enough to support an apartment, and the game. I know a guy who wrote a bunch of church choir songs back in the sixties and seventies, and a few times a year he still gets a check for a couple hundred dollars. Of course, he's also an estate lawyer for a major financial institution, so it's not like he's trying to live off of it.

Of course, Codex also mentioned that her credit cards are maxed out, so she may have just been living off of them all this time. I did that for about a year and a half once... I don't recommend it.
